The structure of the seminar is rather informal and related to current research projects. Pierre will present an overview of the various research projects currently going on in his lab and will let the interest of the group guide the discussion. His current projects include psychophysiological and fMRI studies on:

1. the cognitive/emotion modulation of pain (e.g. music, emotional pictures from the IAPS and meditation)

2. counter-irritation analgesia in health and disease (e.g. IBS)

3. perception of pain facial expression and how it modulates pain in the observer

4. mapping brain regions associated with the different output channels activated by painful stimuli (i.e. perceptual, RIII-reflex, autonomic, facial)

The discussion will be followed by sandwiches and later, Randi Abrahamsen will defend her PhD thesis on the effect of hypnosis on pain and psychosocial findings in persistent idiophatic orofacial pain at the School of Dentistry at 13PM with Pierre as member of the examination committee.
